ONE WEEK UNTIL VOTING BEGINS! HAVE YOUR SAY. YOUR VOTE MATTERS.

Oct 12
2 min read

On October 19, Thunder Bay residents will have their first opportunity to vote in the 2026 municipal election. I believe this is a consequential election for our city, and I hope everyone takes the opportunity to participate.

Municipal elections have historically attracted fewer voters than provincial and federal elections. Yet the decisions made at City Hall affect our daily lives, from property taxes, roads and infrastructure to public transit, community safety and the services our families depend on.

I've spoken throughout this campaign about the need for stronger leadership, better fiscal responsibility, greater accountability and a Council willing to work together. We need representatives who ask difficult questions, listen to residents and recognize that helping people and spending public money responsibly are both important obligations.

HERE'S HOW YOU CAN VOTE:

October 19–26: Online voting

October 19 and 21: In-person advance polls

October 19, 21 and 26: Accessible voting devices available

Monday, October 26: Election Day

Please take a few minutes to make your voting plan. Talk to your family, friends and neighbours about the election, share the voting information and encourage everyone who's eligible to participate.  Share this post to spread the word.

Finally, I want to express my sincere appreciation for the many messages, emails, questions and conversations throughout this campaign. The support I've received from Northwood constituents and residents across Thunder Bay has been overwhelming, and I am genuinely grateful.

Whether we've agreed or disagreed on an issue, I appreciate everyone who has taken the time to engage, ask questions and share their concerns respectfully. Those conversations matter, and they remind me how much people care about the future of our city.

Let's make our voices heard on October 26.

Vote John Ongaro - Northwood
